System requirements

FIRDesign is self-contained: each installer bundles a trimmed OpenJDK and OpenJFX runtime, so there is nothing else to install and no separate Java required.

First launch

FIRDesign is not code-signed yet, so the first launch needs one extra step. Your system will say it cannot verify the app — that is what it always says about software from a developer who has not paid for a signing certificate, and it is worth knowing that it means unverified, not examined and found harmful. You can confirm the file is exactly the one we published with the checksum below. Signing is on the way; it is the fix for this, not a workaround.

  • macOSDrag the app to Applications and open it. The first attempt is refused, and the dialog offers only Move to Trash and Done — press Done, it is not the end of the road. Then open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down to Security: there is a line saying FIRDesign was blocked, with an Open Anyway button. Click it and authenticate. Once only — it opens normally from then on. (Right-click → Open no longer works; Apple removed that route in macOS 15.)
  • WindowsSmartScreen shows a blue panel — choose More info → Run anyway. If there is no Run anyway, Smart App Control is switched on, and it blocks unsigned installers outright. We would rather you did not turn a security feature off to install our app: mail info@formantus.com and we will sort it out with you.
  • Linux (AppImage)make it executable first: chmod +x FIRDesign-1.3.0-….AppImage then run it (or right-click → Properties → Permissions → Allow executing). If it exits complaining about FUSE, your distro ships without it — run ./FIRDesign-1.3.0-….AppImage --appimage-extract-and-run instead. The .deb / .rpm packages install normally.

Verify your download (optional)

Until FIRDesign is code-signed you may prefer to confirm your download is intact. Each release ships a SHA256SUMS.txt; compare it against your file:

  • macOSshasum -a 256 FIRDesign-1.3.0-….dmg
  • Linuxsha256sum FIRDesign-1.3.0-…
  • Windowscertutil -hashfile FIRDesign-1.3.0-….exe SHA256

This catches a corrupted or tampered download in transit; full authenticity comes with code signing (planned).

How to activate

The trial unlocks everything except project save and impulse export. To unlock the full version:

  2. Get your key by email — you'll receive a license key (and a key file) right after purchase.
  3. Open Activate… in the app and paste your key (or load the file you were sent). Activation is fully offline.
  4. Restart FIRDesign — everything unlocks, and your copy is "Licensed to you".
